When it rains it fucking pours

While I was out this morning doing some grocery shopping and picking up a job application, I got a call from my husband. Seems our water pressure tank - we are on a well and the well pumps the water into the tank and then it's ready for if someone turns on a faucet - and the whole setup is quite old and it's been on it's last legs for some time - you know where this is going don't you? Well, he was moving a saw (to clean it up and sell on ebay) and bumped something and ...

suddenly water is spraying all over that side of the basement (where he has all his tools and machines) and when he tried to turn the valve to stop the water it just turned and turned and turned and ...

So he turned off the power to the pump (before it pumped the well dry and burnt out) both at the switch and the circuit breaker. He thinks all the water in all the pipes in the house that could flow that direction did - and we have quite the nice wading pool in that corner of the basement. Also, now we have no water - to drink, wash with, do dishes, laundry, flush toilets. My daughter had just gotten back from a walk and was looking forward to a shower. I have a ton of laundry. So he's off at the plumbing supply place spending money we don't have.

It's hard, all this shit is happening to us and I really didn't want to sit here and complain, but hell.

That's all, just hell.

"This too shall pass."

Those are my mom's words of wisdom, Robin. I grew up hearing them, and didn't really understand what they meant until I bought a house.

And now..."This too shall pass."

It's a hard thing to do, but you will get past this, you will get through this, and you will come out on the other side stronger and more resilient.

Yes, I've decided to be your own personal cheering squad ;)

It's a skill I have, apparently.

Pom poms and all? ;-)

I could say something smartass like

it will pass to make room for the next disaster.

Har har har

But I won't.

Hubby is a Lowe's this moment - actually, if he manages to successfully do this (and make it all work), I think that will give him a big boost, which he desperately needs.

On the other hand...

no, let's not go there.

I'm so sorry. It does feel like everything comes down on top of you all at once sometimes, doesn't?

Hang in there.

Recently my parents came home to find that a pipe had burst in the bathroom on the second floor of their house. Water had thus been leaking from it down onto the first floor down into the basement for several hours by the time they got home. :/

Just an empathy sharing...

Anyway, best to you and Mr. E as he works on plumbing. Breathe consciously.

And see you soon!!

If you and your family want to take a drive, I can offer my shower(s) and washing machine! Only an hour and a little bit away! Seriously. I'd love the company.

There does seem to be a large gloom and doom dome around many of us recently. It's GOT to pass off into the ocean soon. Tuesday, my husband's 2009 car broke a belt and died in the city after we left an appointment. We quickly coasted onto the Trinity College campus and then waited 3 hours for Triple A. Scariest ride in a tow truck back to Colchester that I've ever had, and with my vertigo--WHEW! Anyway, while waiting for the tow truck, my husband and I just kind of looked at each other at one point and laughed and tried to help each other through it. Sometimes, that's all you can do.

Hang in there, Robin.--Linda

Neve, Emerald and Linda - thanks.

yeah, my kids are going okay, it comes in threes, so there was the brokedown truck on friday, the health insurance debacle, and now this. but then our air conditioner is not working (it's central air and is through the same system as our heating and since our boiler emptied and that's turned off maybe it's all connected) - and so we might have to call the HVAC guy tomorrow

oh, life is fun.
